Digitally woven cotton with polyester, embroidery, pigment and crystals on wood mount
33 x 25 x 4 in.

Concept: This textile portrait “painting” features a being with a human-like head but an insect-like body is a character of importance in its society, so it has iconography of clouds, and colorful coat patterns surrounding it that suggest a coat of arms.

Process: I layered leftover elements from other pieces, carefully, stuffed  some areas and embroidered others, used pigment to brighten colors and added crystals in the eyes to give it a sense of life. The figure protrudes forward referencing a hologram or  sculpture giving the piece a feeling of confident mystery.
