Concept: This humanoid piece was made to invite viewers into an alternate world of beings who lived in holodeck-like caves for safety and community. Like Digital Skin, this being could communicate through images on its skin, and didn’t have a head because it was wired into a digital network without the need for localized idea processing.
Process: Starting with a heavy gauge aluminum wire, I made the basic shape, then reinforced it with light gauge wire. I wrapped the wire with polyester stuffing covered with tape and upholstered it with polyester fabric containing images of Looney Tunes characters. The limbs are flexible so that its posture can be changed.
Activity
Writing / Discussion / Drawing Exercises: Supplies: drawing tools, paper
1. Describe an ideal outfit to wear when you’re going out for the whole day.
2. If someone didn’t know you, what do you think they could learn by observing these clothes?
3. What clothes make you feel most free and why?
4. Make a sketch of yourself in a fantasy outfit that you wish you could wear but don’t have. Don’t worry if it isn’t a realistic drawing - just try to capture the spirit of what you think it might look like, or what it might feel like to wear.
