Digitally woven cotton with hemp and cotton threads
10.5 x 8.5 in.

Process: This piece is from a series of 20 small embroideries made from scraps of my larger pieces which I improvisationally embroidered using yarns and strings.  To practice embroidery, I made pieces based on ‘samplers’ - a practical embroidery that demonstrates various stitches and techniques to help people learn.

Concept: By making composing in relation to the existing pattern, I was able to  experiment with layering slowly over time. As the composition took form, it resembled interconnection, community and networks - structures that facilitate the flow of information in thoughts, societies, ecosystems, and the internet.
